Description:

We would like to thank Mr. C. Beddington for his help in studying this drawing

Probably a first idea for the lower right section of one of many variant views of the Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore from the Molo, such as that sold at Sotheby’s, London, 3 July 1997, lot 88 (D. Succi, Francesco Guardi, II, Catalogo dei Dipinti e Disegni inediti, Segrate, 2021, p. 96, no. 126, illustrated in colour), or that in the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, Williamstown, Mass (A. Morassi, Guardi: l’opera completa di Antonio e Francesco Guardi, Venice, 1973, I, pp. 392-3, no. 435; II, fig. 456).
